UI Movie Review Craziest Movie of 2024
The screen went blank just minutes after Upendra's much-awaited UI, leading to whispers among the audience that it was a ploy by the actor-filmmaker to confuse them. In Upendra's previous directorial, Uppi 2, people were surprised by a scene where the screen goes blank. That time it was done intentionally, but at my screening of UI, it was just a case of a projection glitch. Having served a generation with his quirky ideas on the big screen, Upendra's reputation as an unpredictable filmmaker makes people expect the unexpected.

The screen went blank just minutes after Upendra's much-awaited UI, leading to whispers among the audience that it was a ploy by the actor-filmmaker to confuse them. In Upendra's previous directorial, Uppi 2, people were surprised by a scene where the screen goes blank. Having served a generation with his quirky ideas on the big screen, Upendra's reputation as an unpredictable filmmaker makes people expect the unexpected.
After a gap of nine years, Upendra has returned as a director and has delivered a film that doesn't have a single predictable scene. He breaks the grammar of filmmaking in his trademark way and makes UI worthwhile despite its shortcomings.
The film is another take on Upendra's favourite theme of questioning the system and reiterating the importance of focusing on the truth. UI has given a psychological twist to the mythology of Kalki. Mother Nature, Adam and Eve and even Buddha are central to the plot, allowing UI to create many films in one film.
Set in a fantasy world where people from all nations co-exist, Upendra aims to do something impossible with a stellar style of filmmaking. His enterprising mind is helped by a solid VFX team, art director J Sivakumar's mammoth effort and Ajaneesh Loknath's unique score.
Playing the protagonist, Upendra has written a character for himself that provides the shock therapy he is known for. The film is filled with metaphors, many of them relevant in today's context. Be it mob mentality, caste discrimination, religious violence, Instagram addiction, blind faith, corrupt politicians, and a joker who stays neutral without taking any side, Upendra takes a dig at everything he feels is a scourge of mankind.
